Patacca Silvano, artistic director of the dance season of the Teatro di Pisa, what are the surprises of the 2007 dance season?
A first comment is that I do on the season for this year is, fortunately, we did it! Why the cuts caused by the previous financial year, as expected, would reverberated on the 2007 program, not that of 2006 when it all initiatives had already been programmed, both by production companies, and those planning on the part of the theater. Certainly, for a theater like ours, which also lives ministerial grants: a minimum of 8 titles, the presence of five companies recognized and subsidized by the Ministry, a national first.
We also tried to follow a common thread, that of revisiting classics from the history of ballet in a contemporary way. Almost all the titles can be traced to this line:
the show that opens the season, the evening of May Dance with Fokine's Les Sylphides and L'après-midi d'un faune Nijinskji choreographed by the Cinderella of Balletto di Roma, and the gala dance brought by the very classic Les Ballets Grandia, travesti New York company that offers impeccable performances by Fokine and Petipa mixed with entertaining interludes, always on your toes.
And also in March, the long awaited return with a new choreography dell'Aterballetto Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet, in which Shakespeare, ballet neoclassical Bigonzetti and music of the twentieth century are met with one of the greatest visual artists of our time, Fabrizio Plessi , which created a giant sculpture to tell the relentless electronic fate of death of the lovers. The last show on the calendar would give us a link to this vein, with a Nutcracker Chajkovskij Roman Botega , the first hip hop group in Italy, both in time and quality, the only one to be recognized by the Ministry. Unfortunately, because of the notorious reduction in funding for the show, we will see only a small scene, together with the first national Ostro, the south wind: music from the Maghreb to the Balkans to blend street dance in an experiment great courage and interest.
There is great attention around hip hop and contemporary dance, recently: the growing audience of the shows to the widespread use of classes in gyms and dance schools, both in Italy and here in Pisa. We can ascribe some credit at the Teatro Verdi?
